Health Services Calendar of Events 2020-2021 (academic calendar year).

Connection & Support Group, starts Thursday, February 4th, 1-2pm.  Feeling disconnected or isolated? Counseling will be offering a weekly connection group, via Zoom, for students both on and off-campus. The purpose of this group is to provide students a safe and supportive virtual space to discuss shared struggles related to isolation, feeling disconnected, quarantine, social distancing, and facing uncertainty related to the pandemic. Facilitated by Karina Krosbakken, MSW, LICSW, counselor at Health Services.  Contact Karina to register: [email protected] or 218-726-7913.

Flu Shots available at Health Services by appointment, 218-726-8155:

  • COVID screenings will be done by phone when making your appointment and also at the time of your visit   
  • Anyone with any COVID related symptoms or exposure will be asked to call and reschedule 
  • FREE to UMD students
  • FREE to Staff/Faculty/Dependents over 18 and Retirees who are enrolled in UPlan at UMD.  **Please note we are not offering the high dose vaccine.  All others who are not enrolled through UPlan should call their local clinic or visit one of the local pharmacies offering flu shots
  • Print the consent form and complete prior to your appointment to facilitate a quicker process

Let’s Talk Online.  Counselors will be available for brief, informal, free and confidential, drop-in consultations.  Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. Click on the link or use the meeting ID and pass code to join the zoom session of your choice. You will enter the waiting room and a counselor will acknowledge that they notice you there. You may need to wait a few minutes if the counselor is with someone else. The wait time is usually 5-15 minutes. Once you are admitted from the waiting room, the counselor will listen closely to your concerns and provide support, perspective and suggestions for resources to assist you. Links for access are recurring.

Learn stress reduction and self-care skills with a group of your peers!  Resilience and Renewal Group (R2) will be offered periodically. Check back for dates.  How can you benefit from R2?  Reduce Stress and Build Resilience • Develop Effective Coping Skills • Enhance Well-being • Increase Self-awareness.

Cancelled for this academic year--Pet Away Worry and Stress monthly events. 11am-1pm in the Kirby Student Lounge. We will also have a few pets in the Garage space across the hall for a quieter experience for students who may prefer that. The focus of PAWS is to decrease stress levels in students, faculty and staff, with therapy animals. This collaborative event is sponsored by Animal Allies, KUMD, The Kathyrn A. Martin Library, UMD Health Services, the Department of Psychology, the Office of Environmental Health & Safety, and Kirby Student Center.

Cancelled for this academic year--Designated Nap Zone on campus!  The Underground in the Kirby Student Center will be a designated nap zone every weekday, 2-3pm. It will be available for use as usual for studying, etc, but signs will be posted honoring a quieter space during those days and times.  For more information about sleep and napping, visit Health Services Sleep Education & Initiatives web page. Napping is not recommended for students within insomnia, or difficulty sleeping on a regular basis.  Please make a free appointment with a UMD Health Services Counselor for support.
